One of Ringo’s Last Autographs-Part 2

 Ringo's Autogragh

Well, he didn’t get invited backstage, but we had a ball anyway.

So I took a picture of my son holding up this poster, and mailed it (Next Day Air) to the address that I had found on the computer, and included a self-addressed stamped envelope.  I had tracking on the package and some guy named “John” or something signed for it, but we still weren’t quite sure if this was “Ringo’s address”.

I figured if we were going to get a response, that it would happen by Christmas, 2008…..but….nothing.

I had given up hope; really, and then in late January a letter came in the mail addressed to my son and in my handwriting!  With all the things that life brings to us, I had forgotten all about our letter to Ringo.  We opened it and to our delight, there was the picture of my son holding up the poster and Ringo’s autograph on it.

We were extatic!  My little drummer boy got to see one of the most famous musicians in concert and got his autograph!  Now it’s Paul’s turn.

When I heard that Ringo Starr was going to stop signing autographs, I almost panicked.  Apparently, several items that “fans” had sent to Ringo to be signed, ended up “For Sale” on ebay.  You can’t blame the guy.  I would have done the same thing if I took all that time only to find out that someone is profiting from your generosity.
I immediately searched for an address to get his autograph before the cutoff date of October 20th, 2008.  (At least he gave us that.)  I wasn’t even sure if the address that I found was valid or not, but I didn’t have any more time to waste.
You see, I’ve been a lifelong Beatles fan and have enjoyed a few live performances over the years. But now at 43 years old, I have a 4 year old son who deserves to experience the magic of John, Paul, George and/or Ringo.
I had taken my son to his first concert just a month or so before Ringo’s announcement to stop signing autographs.  The concert was “Ringo Starr and His All-Star Band” in Woodinville, Washington.  He loves anything to do with the Beatles; already!  I had spent a couple of hours making a poster for him to hold up during the concert.  The poster said “I’m a 3 Year Old Drummer- Can I Meet You Backstage?

To Be Continued…
